about vivienne westwood watches

Why Vivienne Westwood?

A Vivienne Westwood watch is not designed to disappear on the wrist.

That can mean the segmented bracelet and oversized three-dimensional Orb of Armour, the pebble-shaped case of Audley, the etched dial of Mews or an Orb transformed into the watch itself.

The current collection moves between compact jewellery watches, sculptural bracelets, colourful dials and more conventional men’s and unisex designs, often with one detail that deliberately disrupts the expected shape.

There is no single Vivienne Westwood watch silhouette.

There is, however, an unmistakable Westwood point of view.

about vivienne westwood watches

More than an Orb on the dial

Vivienne Westwood watches draw on design ideas that existed long before they reached the wrist.

The Orb combines a symbol of tradition with the rings of Saturn, representing Vivienne Westwood’s idea of carrying the past into the future. Across the watch collection, it can appear as a dial signature, seconds-hand detail, bracelet charm or three-dimensional part of the design.

Other references go deeper into the archive. Armour recalls the plated forms of the 1988 Time Machine collection. Little Wallace takes its pattern, crystals and decorative detail from the interiors of the Wallace Collection, while Mews looks to the cobbled streets and coloured houses of London.

Even the collection names keep the watches connected to the city: Fenchurch, Camberwell, Hoxton, Bloomsbury and The Bank.

The common thread is that the watch is treated as another place for Westwood’s ideas, not simply somewhere to put the logo.
